Donald Trump’s plans to overturn the 2020 election results hit a huge barrier today as legislators in Georgia and Michigan affirmed that they would designate Joe Biden’s electors as the official representatives to the Electoral College.

On Green and Red Podcast and elsewhere, Scott Parkin and Bob Buzzanco have been discussing this issue frequently over the past two months and, contrary to most media analyses, have made it clear that Trump was not going to stage a “coup” or otherwise remain in office.

“Trump has been in conflict with the people who run the economic and military sectors of the economy,” said Buzzanco. “Bankers like Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, head of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Tom Donahue and military officials like JCS Chair Mark Milley and General James Mattis, ex-Secretary of Defense have rebuffed Trump and made it clear they would not support any efforts to subvert the election.”

They have been unique among progressive media in giving a dispassionate and analytical interpretation on this issue amid the alarm and fear that Trump created over the election.

Bob Buzzanco is a professor of history at the University of Houston, and a visiting professor at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.  He is the author of numerous books and articles about American politics, protest movements, foreign policy, the economy, the Vietnam War and other topics in U.S. history. He blogs at http://afflictthecomfortable.org.

Scott Parkin is a political organizer working on a myriad of issues including climate change, human rights and democracy.

Mr. Parkin and Professor Buzzanco co-host the Green and Red Podcast and are available for interviews on radio, television, podcasts, print media or elsewhere.
