On August 23d, 1927 the state of Massachusetts executed Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, two Italian anarchists who’d been framed for a murder and convicted despite the absence of any evidence linking them to the crime. It was part of a national attack on immigrants, and occurred during a resurgence of right-wing and ultra-christian politics.
It’s very clear that the lesson of Sacco and Vanzetti is very relevant in 2023, with the way the right-wing and others today are vilifying immigrants, touting an aggressive Christianity, and demanding patriotic conformity.
