Trump’s Wars with Latin America w/ Prof. Aviva Chomsky

In a wide-ranging discussion w/ the eminent historian of Latin America Aviva Chomsky we laid out the motives and purposes of Trump’s aggression against the region currently ongoing. We began w/ Venezuela, and discussed the history of U.S. subversion there and Trump’s current obsession with its oil. We also talked about Cuba, which is another, if not bigger, goal of the current administration. More generally we discussed the way the U.S. has undermined and destroyed Latin American economies, and how it’s contributed to our current immigration crisis.

Avi Chomsky is a professor of history and the Coordinator of Latin American, Latino and Caribbean Studies at Salem State University in Massachusetts. She is author of “Is Science Enough?: Forty Critical Questions About Climate Justice,” “Central America’s Forgotten History: Revolution, Violence, and the Roots of Migration” and “Undocumented: How Immigration Became Illegal.”
