September 16–18, 1982: The Sabra and Shatila Massacre

On September 16, 1982, Lebanese Phalange forces, led and protected by Israeli troops, entered Sabra and Shatila, where thousands of Palestinian refugees were located southwest of Beirut and slaughtered perhaps 3000 people. In the long history of nakba, this is one of the darker moments.

So to commemorate that atrocity that occurred 44 year ago, here’s a brief description of what happened, the context of Israel’s war on Lebanon that facilitated it, and what the fallout was . . .
